The Teachers’ Union of North and East Syria denounces the arrest of teacher Soma

An Iranian court sentenced Kurdish language teacher Soma Pourmohammadi to 10 years in prison, on charges of organizing groups and organizations to undermine Iran’s security.

On the one hand, these accusations against teacher Soma are contrary to the truth, and on the other hand, they are being used by the Iranian regime as a peg to justify its inhumane actions against teachers in eastern Kurdistan.

The virtuous teacher, Soma, was teaching the Kurdish language to her people, and she is also a member of the central committee of the Nujin Organization, so the accusations after which she was imprisoned are false and pure slander.

We, in the Teachers’ Union in North and East Syria, condemn and denounce in the strongest terms the two dirty practices of the Iranian regime and the arbitrary imprisonment of teacher Soma, and we consider it a blatant violation of the right to education in the mother tongue, and a violation of international charters and treaties defending the dignity and rights of teachers. We also express our full support and solidarity with the family of teacher Soma, asking God to free her from the hands of tyrants.

We, as Teachers’ Union of North and East Syria, based on our duty towards teachers all over the world, we will raise Soma’s case to the authorities concerned with teachers’ rights to repel the Iranian regime from its unjust decision against her, and for her case to reach international public opinion.
